Surgical/Scrub Technician

The Surgical/Scrub Technician’s role is to assist surgeons and other medical professionals in the operating room. Under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Nurse, the candidate will prepare the operating room and equipment prior to the procedure and operate as a part of the operating team during surgery.

Job Duties:

  • Keep abreast of assigned patient procedures to ensure timely preparation of rooms
  • Ensure that every case has the needed supplies to last the duration of the procedure
  • If supplies run low during the procedure, replace as needed
  • Use aseptic techniques when opening and preparing instruments for surgery
  • Place sterile solutions in areas that are easily reachable for doctors
  • Clean and remove hair (if needed) from the area where the patient’s surgery will be performed
  • Transport patients to and from the operating room
  • Lift patients unto the operating table before surgery and remove them after surgery
  • Monitor patient’s vital signs throughout the procedure
  • Pass the needed equipment to the doctors during surgery
  • Help dress patient’s wounds when needed
  • Ability to adapt to constant change in a fast paced environment
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patients, and
  • Adheres to all OSHA and infection control guidelines

Requirements:

  • Successful Completion of a Surgical Technology Program
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Certification by the NBSTSA preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, and patients
  • Ability to frequently lift or move 25 – 50 pounds
  • 1 year operating room experience preferred
