Remote Coding Specialist

The remote coding specialist will work off site to assign codes to patient’s services and medical diagnosis.

Job Duties:

  • Maintain a reliable mode of receiving medical charts, medical records, and other documents
  • Appropriately code the received documents within the predetermined timeline
  • Send coded documents to insurance companies or back to medical facilities as appropriate
  • Ensure medical coding software is updated and operating properly
  • Keep records extremely organized and accurate
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding guidelines and federal regulations
  • Remain familiar with the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Diagnosis-related Group (DRG) codes

Requirements:

  • Minimum Associate’s degree in medical coding
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a coding specialist
  • Certification as a coding specialist through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
  • Certified professional Coder by the American Association of Medical Coders (AAMC)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • In depth knowledge of computer operation
