HealthCare Support is actively seeking a Remote Medical Underwriter to fill a job opening. This role is fully remote in the United States, but you cannot have any planned time off for the remainder of 2025.

Daily Responsibilities for Remote Medical Underwriter:

• Insurance Solutions provides Medicare Supplement insurance to AARP members (age 65+). The Medicare Supplement plans offered by Insurance Solutions require some medical underwriting to establish plan eligibility and premium rates. We are currently looking for temporary medical Underwriters to underwrite enrollment applications during peak periods.
• The process of assessing the risk associated with providing health insurance coverage. Medical underwriting involves an examination and analysis of an individual’s medical information, which is used to determine how risky an individual is and thus how much that individual should pay for insurance
• Phone work is REQUIRED for this role.
  • You will be scheduled for phone shifts handling inbound calls for point-of-sale underwriting.
  • This is critical to the role and candidates must be comfortable taking inbound calls back-to-back, talking to members about their medical history and gathering additional info.
  • There will also be outbound calls required to complete job duties – this would fall outside of the inbound phone shift.
  • Good soft skills and being comfortable on the phones is extremely important to be successful in this position.
  • You will be on the phone for 4-6 hours a day but potentially more during busier times (some weeks could be closer to 7-8 hours). The schedules are usually posted 2 weeks in advance.
• Based on prior years, minimal to no OT is required from August to September. Additional OT (5+ hours weekly) is expected from November through January. Saturdays may be required for OT.
• Candidates must be flexible to work any 8-hour shift between 8am-7pm CST
• This is a contract position, running approx. through the end of February 2026
   

Required Qualifications for Remote Medical Underwriter:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Experience working in the health insurance industry.
• Well-versed in reading medical records with ability to speak about them in depth
• Strong attention to detail
• General knowledge of chronic medical conditions
• No time off requests through the end of 2025
• Proficiency in medical terminology
• Good soft skills and sensitivity in speaking to geriatric population
• Comfortable being on the phone – inbound and outbound calls. Will be scheduled for phone shifts handling back-to-back inbound calls
• Dedicated home office space – must have closed door for HIPAA / PHI
• High speed internet. Must be hardwired and provide your own Ethernet cord. Cannot use Wi-Fi connection. Ensure the ethernet cord can support high performance networks
• Computer proficient with experience navigating multiple programs simultaneously

Pay: $25.50 an hour, set pay rate
