HealthCare Support is actively seeking a ER Patient Registration to fill an opening with a Prestigious Healthcare Company in Chandler Arizona area.

Daily Responsibilities for ER Patient Registration:

  • Day shifts
    Sun – Tues 6am – 6:30pm (12 hour shifts / 36 hours per week)
    Sun – Wed 8am – 6:30pm (10 hour shifts / 40 hours per week)

    Night shifts
    Sun – Wed 5pm – 3:30am (10 hour shifts / 40 hours per week)
    Sun – Tues 6pm – 6:30am (12 hour shifts / 36 hours per week)
    Mon – Thurs 6pm – 4:30am (10 hour shifts / 40 hours per week)

    Training: M-F 7am – 4pm or 8am – 5pm for the first 3 weeks. Candidates must be able to work the training schedule then transition to scheduled shift

Job Duties:

  • Registers and pre-registers patients.
  • Checks insurance eligibility benefits and authorizations.
  • Verifies all patient demographics.
  • Explains hospital policy, patient financial responsibilities, and patient rights.
  • Collects co-payments and other patient liabilities.
  • Answering phones, maintaining files, scheduling appointments
  • Performing a wide variety of secretarial support duties to support Patient Access department 
  • Provides excellent customer service

Workflow:
Depending on the area you are working in, the work flow will differ.  All registrars will be trained to work in the ER.

  • In the ER and OB areas we are to follow EMTALA – Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act – We must provide an examination and needed stabilizing treatment, prior to obtaining insurance information from the patient.  Because of this, we do a quick check in of our patients in those areas, obtaining only minimal demographic info to check the patient in
  • Once the patient has been seen by a physician, we are able to complete the full registration.  We obtain full demographics, emergency contacts, some basic visit info, Insurance, consent forms, provide patient with an estimate for the visit and collect patient responsibility.  If patient is not able to pay in full, we provide other options such as applying for State Medicaid, Dignity Payment Assistance, prompt pay discounts and payment plans.
  • Majority of our registrations are completed at the patient’s bedside.  We have workstations on wheels (WOW) that we utilize to be mobile.  For the majority of all shifts, you will be on your feet and walking around pushing a WOW.  We do work with several systems at one time so multi-tasking is a must.
  • Being a hospital, you will be dealing with all the sights, sounds and smells that come with hospitals and ER settings.  We also deal with traumas and in some cases, death.  Because we work in a sensitive environment, we need to be mindful of our approach but also make sure we are informing our patients of their liability and ensuring that their accounts are complete and accurate.
  • Each registrar in each area will have individual productivity and collection standards that they are expected to meet
     

Required Qualifications for ER Patient Registration:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ years of healthcare customer service or admin experience in fast paced environment. Strongly prefer candidates that have hospital registration and ER experience
  • Excellent customer service skills and communication.
  • Insurance knowledge of all payers HMO, PPO, government
  • Knowledge of insurance verification, authorizations and billing process
  • Type 45 wpm 10 key by touch
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel
  • Must have thick skin and can do attitude! 
  • Dedicated employee with excellent attendance and can fully commit to the shift 
  • Good job tenure – no job hoppers

3-month contract to start with perm potential (hospital wants to bring candidates perm as long as they have good attendance and performance. Depending upon current FTE openings)

Start Date: ASAP (onboarding takes 2-3 weeks)
